Abel & Imray’s team of attorneys have expertise in all technical areas including electronics, optics, computer software, biotechnology, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and mechanical, civil and electrical engineering.

"a highly professional firm which I have strongly recommended"

We keep abreast of the latest developments in technology and patent law in order to provide our clients with the best possible advice. As well as following developments, we continue to be involved in some of the leading cases in biotechnology, electronics and computer-related inventions and play an active role in shaping the future of IP law.

We provide a complete, high-quality service, including drafting new patent applications and prosecuting patent applications before the British and European Patent Offices and under the Patent Co-operation Treaty (PCT), as well as coordinating the filing and prosecution of corresponding national and/or regional applications worldwide. We are also involved in obtaining Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPCs). Other important aspects of our work include advising on validity, infringement and amendment of patents, including "due diligence" investigations, IP Audits, and handling patent oppositions and revocation proceedings.

We also have an in-house translation department which has particular expertise in the translation of texts relating to subject matter in all technical areas, from biochemistry to physics.

We have wide and successful experience of presentation of cases at European Patent Office hearings and interviews, and in particular frequently represent clients in opposition and appeal hearings. Our Munich accommodation provides an invaluable base for preparing for hearings at the European Patent Office in Munich.

Abel & Imray seeks to provide clients with pragmatic and commercially-minded advice recognising where patents fit into a wider business as a tool to protect investment and influence competitors. A number of Abel & Imray’s patent attorneys have experience at working “in-house” in the IP departments of large corporations, which provides a valuable insight into the value of patents to business.

Abel & Imray is also well-placed to advise on all aspects of patent strategy, portfolio management, and the exploitation of patents, including licensing. See for example our recent briefing concerning the UK Patent Box.
