James has a degree in Engineering, specialising in aeronautics, from Cambridge University, and subsequently worked for two years as a research scientist for QinetiQ in the field of aerospace and defence.
His work covers a broad range of disciplines focused on patent and design work in the engineering field. Within that field James has worked on a wide range of aerospace inventions and a variety of patents and designs for electrical and household goods. He has extensive experience of foreign patent and design prosecution, especially in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions. He has also advised clients on the relevance of third party patent rights to their planned activities, with projects ranging from very brief reviews to major worldwide monitoring of patent prosecution and litigation.
He has been involved with patent drafting workshops, and in 2010 James was appointed a member of the Examination Committee for the European qualifying examination. He became a Partner of the firm in 2012.
James is based in the firm’s Bath office.
