Pat has a degree in Physics from the University of Durham. He joined the firm in 1964 and has wide experience of patent work, mainly in the mechanical field.
He became a Partner in the firm in 1982, and was Senior Partner from 2008 to 2011. He now acts as a Consultant to the firm, with a high proportion of his work being in the area of trade marks and related fields. He is a Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and was a member of the CIPA (Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys) delegation to Japan in 1996 which attended meetings with the Japan Intellectual Property Association and the Japan Patent Attorneys Association. He has recently been involved in major trade mark litigation and company acquisition and anti-counterfeiting work.
