Sam has a degree in Biological Sciences and Chemistry and a M.Sc. in Biological Sciences from Waikato University, New Zealand. He subsequently spent 18 months in the Reproductive Technologies Group of the Crown research institute AgResearch, in research in transgenics and molecular embryology.
He joined the patent profession in 2001, working in New Zealand, where he advised many of New Zealand's universities and Crown research institutes in the areas of biochemistry and biotechnology. Sam joined Abel & Imray in 2007 after moving to the UK, and has qualified as a European and UK Patent Attorney. Sam's experience of working as a qualified Attorney in the southern hemisphere, together with his experience of European and UK practice, provides him with a strong international perspective on patent drafting and prosecution.
He has extensive experience of advising on patentability and freedom-to-operate issues, filing strategies, and the drafting and prosecution of local and international patent applications in the biosciences and biomedical areas.
Sam is based in the firm's London office.
