Tim has a degree in
Cell Biology from Durham University and a Ph.D. in Immunology from Edinburgh
University. He is a Chartered Biologist and Member of the Institute of Biology.
His Ph.D. was on HIV interactions with macrophages and dendritic cells, and induction
of immune tolerance via the Notch signalling pathway and he has special
expertise in immunology and cell biology. Tim joined the firm in 2001, and
became a Partner in 2009.
Almost all of his patent work is in the biotechnology and related fields, and
includes work for universities and start-up companies as well as larger
international corporations. Tim handles a substantial amount of prosecution
work at the EPO, and he has recently worked on inventions in the areas of
bioinformatics, screening assays, antibodies, diagnostic methods, expression
vectors and the use of recombinant gene technology in tissue engineering and
screening technologies. He has been extensively involved in prosecuting
applications relating to inventions arising from bioinformatics analysis of
nucleic acid sequences, and has experience of searching of gene sequence
databases. Tim has also advised on IP ownership issues.
Tim is based in the firm's Bath office, but is also regularly in our Cardiff
and London offices.
